Tricia Smith, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics. Her clinical practice spans level I trauma, quaternary-care academic, county-based, and community emergency settings, where she has held multiple leadership roles.
Her primary expertise is in clinical documentation innovation, digital care coordination, and electronic health record optimization, including integration with third-party applications that improve patient outcomes and reduce clinician burden. She led the multi-hospital deployment of ambient listening AI scribes in the emergency department and facilitates interdisciplinary governance connecting clinicians, nursing, pharmacy, and IT with executive leadership. Her additional informatics work supports emergency department operations and quality initiatives, patient experience and time-sensitive conditions such as sepsis, STEMI, and stroke.
Her work has been featured in regional media and trade publications, and she has authored multiple manuscripts on the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. She contributes nationally through invited presentations and service on Epic’s Emergency Medicine Steering Board, as well as in leadership for the American College of Emergency Physicians Section on Emergency Informatics.
A native of Jamaica, Dr. Smith received her medical degree from the University of the West Indies. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Connecticut after receiving her MPH from Harvard University.
